Special award for WITRON
Every year, the manufacturer of premium sports vehicles, Dr. Ing. H. c. F. Porsche AG from Stuttgart, gives the Porsche Supplier Award to its best ten suppliers and service providers. One of these prestigious prizes was awarded to the logistics expert WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH from Parkstein. Josef Gallersdoerfer, member of the WITRON Board, accepted the award in the category “non-production material”. The award was presented by Porsche Management Board members Wolfgang Leimgruber (responsible for production / logistics) and Uwe-Karsten Staedter (responsible for acquisition) during Porsche’s supplier day in Leipzig this past July.
Porsche has been working successfully with WITRON since 1999. Just recently, WITRON designed and realized the warehouse and picking systems in the new central spare parts center in Sachsenheim. Since the beginning of August 2010, Porsche has supplied all of their Porsche centers throughout the world from the distribution center in Sachsenheim (Baden-Württemberg) – all on schedule and out of an assortment of more than 85,000 different spare parts.
The heart of the system is an automated small parts warehouse with 170,000 tote locations, controlled by the WITRON Order Picking System (OPS). Heavy and bulky parts are picked by means of the WITRON forklift guiding system TMS (Transport Management System).
