CONDIS Supermercats expands logistics center in Barcelona

Since autumn of 2013, the Spanish food retailer CONDIS has been operating the pick systems OPM (Order Picking Machinery) and DPS (Dynamic Picking System) from the general contractor WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH. These systems were installed in the logistics center located in Montcada i Reixac, near Barcelona (Spain). Some 500 supermarkets in the region of Catalonia (Spain) - operated independently or by franchisees - are currently supplied with 3,100 different products from the dry goods assortment.

Based on the permanent growth, Condis decided to expand the fully automated OPM system from six to eight COM machines. The existing AS/RS will be expanded by 43,000 tote locations (in total of 172,000) and four stacker cranes (in total of 16). An additional depalletizer (in total of 3) and a second automated stretch-wrapper will come along with the expansion.

Thanks to the expansion, CONDIS will be able to stack 20,000 additional cases onto pallets and roll containers - on a daily basis, without any errors, store-friendly, and without the use of additional labor. This corresponds to a total performance of 91,200 picks per peak day. The expansion awarded in mid-April 2017, had already been considered in the original design and will start productive use by September 2018.
